random on-line window shopping

A friend from the UK turned me on to Firebox, a nifty online shop that sells, well, everything. Not everything per se, but think of it as a cross between ThinkGeek, a retro toy-and-game store, Spencer’s Gifts, and a bizarre food shop, all mixed together. One disadvantage of Firebox is that because it is based in the UK, they can’t ship a lot of items out of the UK, much less the EU. Nevertheless, they have plenty of interesting gizmos and trinkets for sale. Read on for my list of “cool things that I wish I had that they sell”. (Read more…)

before all hell breaks loose

an imageI have always expressed my displeasure with arena shows, mainly because the two main areas where you can be limit your experience. Either you are in grass seats and too damn far off, or you are in the pit and being crushed by screaming, aggravating fans. It is always wonderful, therefore, to be reminded about how Berkeley’s Greek Theatre is always the perfect place to see an arena-level band, like Radiohead. The auditorium, built in the style of a Greek amphitheatre, has seating for almost 10,000 people, but there is not a single bad seat in the house, and the floor area is relatively tiny but not overwhelmingly so. Also, the stage is enormous–easily on par with some of the huge arenas I have been to–and for a band like Radiohead, who puts on a stunning live show, this is definitely an impressively fortunate aspect.

mingle with the carnivores

Posted by Indacelio on Wednesday, 21 of June , 2006 at 10:28 pm

The post title is formerly the name I used for my MySpace page. Since then the site has been SEVERELY updated and changed to be called Societas Nocturnum. After a long amount of searching, I finally came across the methods for overriding a MySpace profile with a new design. This page gives the main override codes, and this one has a bunch of extra features. One thing the main page does NOT give you is a crucial line of code for making sure nothing pops up underneath your new layout. Here is the code, with my addition:

<style type=”text/css”>
.Main { position:absolute; left:50%; top:125px;
width:800px; z-index:1;
margin-left:-400px;
margin-bottom: 0px;
padding:0px; border:0px;
background-color:transparent;} </style>

That extra line will make the page STOP at the bottom of your new profile. Make sure to edit the rest of the section appropriately as well, if you use any funky text or link colors.

More and more changes will be happening as I work on all of my sites. In the meantime, I have also updated the page I run with AR, metalXcore, so you should go check that out, too.

friends, citizens, pirates

Posted by Indacelio on Wednesday, 21 of June , 2006 at 3:42 pm

The Pirate Party of Sweden has now been carried over to the United States! I believe this is a step in the right direction for the creation and maintaining of a good set of fair-use-rights and anti-media-monopoly. From the site:

The Pirate Party of the United States is this country’s version of the Piratpartiet, a Swedish political party that wants to “fundamentally reform copyright law, get rid of the patent system, and ensure that citizens’ rights to privacy are respected.” As a fraternal party, the PPUS shares similar goals while working within the political context of U.S. to achieve them. […] While fine groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the Free Software Foundation, Creative Commons, and Doctors Without Borders have been fighting these battles for a long time with us, no political party in United States has made the reform of intellectual property and privacy laws their top priority. Until now.

Drink up me hearties, yo ho.

talk about a strange coincidence

Posted by Indacelio on Monday, 19 of June , 2006 at 9:17 am

Hopped on this morning and checked the popular del.icio.us links, and I found this page: the Fake Name Generator. After just clicking on it, the first time, this is what I got:

Lane Gluck
443 9th Street
Indianapolis, IN 46278

Phone: 765-336-8955
Mother’s maiden name: Norseworthy
Birthday: May 25, 1984

Am I the only one mildly amused by the fact that this is so close to my actual birthday?
